Bangladesh to Introduce Online Tendering System

Government will introduce online tender management system within two months as part of its drives to build a Digital Bangladesh, Finance Minister AMA Muhith said on Monday while talking to reporters after a meeting regarding "Digital Bangladesh". He said all tenders including local and international of the Roads and Highways Department under the Ministry of Communications will first come under online tender management system.

The main features of online tendering system will include publication of the tender in electronic format on the internet. Suppliers can register for tenders, prepare and submit their bids online. Bids are also evaluated and awarded online, local experts said.

They said introduction of the online tendering will help reduce hassles
of bidders and tampering in quotation and forcible grabbing of one's quotation by others which are common incident in the South Asian country.

Muhith, however, said the ruling party Bangladesh Awami League in its elections manifesto in December last year mentioned 306 steps to build a digital Bangladesh.. "Now we're prioritizing our steps that are to be taken up at the initial stage to reach the target," he said.
