Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) has developed its own laptop, personal computer (PC) and LCD monitor under the brand name 'Premier'.
Sale of these 'local brand products with global quality' will be launched in the market immediately after the coming Eid-ul-fitr. Accessories of the laptop are being imported from China, Hong Kong and Singapore while these are being assembled with technological support from Asmi Technology of India, CCC engineers said.
"Initially we will market the 14 inches dual core laptop within two months from now with one year replacement warranty. Our laptop will be a low price product with high quality. A 14 inches laptop will cost around Tk 28,000" said engineer Taufiq Sayeed, head of IT sector of Premier University run by CCC.
It is a bold step by City Mayor Alhaj ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury to build up digital Chittagong in line with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's dream of turning Bangladesh digital, engineer Taufiq said.
Sources said the 'Premier' PCs and LCD monitors would take a few months to be prepared for selling because they would need 500 PCs and LCDs for their own consumption in the City Corporation offices.
