BanglaLion will start WiMAX Internet Service at the end of May

BanglaLion, a sister concern of Bangladesh Finance (BD Finance), is going to start WiMAX Internet service officially by the end of May, 2009. Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, is expected to present at the inauguration ceremony of BanglaLion Internet service. It is to be noted that, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission awarded BWA (Broadband Wireless Access Service) license to three companies to deploy WiMAX in 2.3 and 2.5 GHz frequency range in 2008. BanglaLion paid Tk. 215 cr. to achieve license for WiMAX. They were also the highest bidder. BD Finance owns almost 20% share of BanglaLion.

“We are going to be the first to help the government to implement its vision of having a Digital Bangladesh”, Anwar Hossain, chairman of BD Finance said. “BanglaLion WiMAX Internet service will start by the end of this month and it will be affordable to general users. The whole country will be under this network coverage. BanglaLion will increase investment in future so that people can easily reach WiMAX service”, he said.

However, BanglaLion’s didn’t advertise anything about their current network coverage yet. May be, some guideline regarding network coverage will be provided in the inauguration ceremony. BanglaLion, however, disclosed its tariff plan at a seminar on ‘WiMAX for Digital Bangladesh’ held at the Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Centre, on the sidelines of the BCS Digital Expo-2009. Customers can get minimum 128Kbps round the clock by connecting BanglaLion WiMAX modem, which costs around Tk3,000.
